The Pullman Police Department is enforcing requirements under Gov. Jay Inslee's proclamations aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 while engaging with the community to promote public safety.
Among the measures Pullman officers are enforcing are the use of facemasks, physical distancing of at least six feet, and limiting gatherings to 10 or fewer people.
"Violations of the Governor's proclamations not only put the violator's health at risk, but the health of our entire community," according to a press release. "We implore everyone to abide by Governor Inslee's declarations. It is the right thing to do for you; it is the right thing to do for your community. We are in this together, and Pullman Police officers are here to help in keeping our community members safe and healthy."
Violations of the governor's proclamations can result in fines and jail time, as described in the department's press release. Those involving WSU students will be reported to the WSU Center for Community Standards, with the university potentially taking action in addition to any criminal or civil process.
