Pursuit Ends in Crash, Critical Incident Declared

A critical incident investigation has been declared following a police pursuit and crash on the North Coast this afternoon.

About 12.40pm (Thursday 26 December 2024), police attached to Mid North Coast Traffic and Highway Patrol Command detected a motorcycle allegedly travelling at speed on the Pacific Highway at Eungai Creek.

Police attempted to stop the rider, but he allegedly failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit travelled south along the Pacific Highway until Fredericktown where the motorcycle turned northbound towards Yarrahapinni.

The motorcycle crashed on Stuart Point Road about 1.15pm.

The rider – a 18-year-old man – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

Police will allege a prohibited firearm was found in the rider's bag.

A crime scene was established and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

A critical incident team from Manning Great Lakes Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
