Have yourself a cherry Merry Christmas this year with the best of the Tasmanian grown fruit arriving in stores.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jane Howlett, joined Fruit Growers Tasmania and Reid Fruits to celebrate the first of the harvest arriving just in time for the holiday season.

"Christmas is a time for families to come together and our cherished Tasmanian cherries are a tasty addition to the celebrations," Minister Howlett said.

"Right now you will find Tasmanian cherries, like those grown by Reid Fruits, in Tasmanian owned grocers right across the State.

"Buying locally produced cherries means you support local jobs and it means we can all have a Merry Christmas.

"Tasmania's premium produce is the envy of the world and our cherries have the deepest colour and are among the sweetest, with this year's crop reported to be one of the best yet.

"Cherries are the largest fruit export from Tasmania, with an export value of $48.28 million.

"This year the Tasmanian Government supported Fruit Growers Tasmania and some of the State's top cherry producers to travel to Hong Kong to showcase their stock at one of the world's largest fruit trade events.

"Supporting our peak bodies to identify export growth opportunities for growers is part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.

"I encourage Tasmanians to visit their local grocer to pick up some tantalisingly good Tasmanian grown cherries for Christmas and the cherry good times ahead."
