Put your mark on Apex Park

Cessnock City Council endorsed the concept of turning Apex Park into an iconic gateway site and is inviting the community to have its say on the concept masterplan.

Located on the intersection of Wollombi Road and Allandale Road in Cessnock, Apex Park has been identified as a gateway to the vineyards, which will also compliment the upgrade to Cessnock Pool across the road.

The masterplan was developed to create a visually stunning and iconic gateway attraction the community would be proud of. The concept includes plans to naturalise and transform the concrete drainage channel. Also included is an all abilities park. The concept will complement Cessnock Pool, and provide a cultural connection to the site, while maintaining public parking and vehicle connectivity.

The creative inspiration for the design came following discussions with Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council and research undertaken by Terras Landscape Architects. Both historical and cultural connections to the site were used to develop the design, with elements such as red cedar, meeting circles with water misting, and a fishing net bridge will be included.

Cessnock City Council Mayor Jay Suvaal is encouraging the community to check out the masterplan and provide feedback.

"This masterplan has been developed to stimulate discussion and provide a practical option for redeveloping the site into an attractive and welcoming park for residents and visitors to enjoy," Councillor Suvaal said.

"A lot of thought, research and detail has gone into this plan and I look forward to hearing what the community has to say about it, and seeing the final result."

The Apex Park Concept Masterplan will be placed on public exhibition via Council's website from Tuesday 1 March to Monday 28 March 2022.
