Our Transurban Art Prize, open to year 7-10 students from across New South Wales, celebrates both connection and creativity.
At first glance, Transurban and art prizes might seem an odd pairing. But our roads and surrounding communities are home to 25 public artworks - including the Canal to Creek project in Sydney and the Habitat Filter installation in Melbourne. So we're pretty at home with mixing the arts in with our STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).
The Canal to Creek project created 21 public artworks and new parkland for communities along the WestConnex M8 motorway alignment - and it also launched an art competition for NSW students. The Transurban Art Prize is the new iteration of the Canal to Creek student art competition that ended with the completion of WestConnex.
This year's competition is open to years 7-10 students studying in New South Wales, for artworks exploring the theme 'connections'. Visual arts works - for example, paintings, sculptures and digital works - in any medium (or combination of mediums) may be entered for the prize.
Prizes will be awarded for every year group, plus an overall school winner. First prize winners in each category will receive an iPad, and runners-up will receive vouchers from Eckersley's Art and Craft. Entries are open now and close on 13 September 2024. The competition is in partnership with Eckersley's Art and Craft and also supported by the NSW Visual Arts and Design Educators Association.
