Tell us about yourself and your journey to joining Create NSW.

My background has spanned arts administration, human resources, and project management. I've been fortunate to take different learnings from these various roles, to develop a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the arts sector. For my own personal connection and love for First Nations artforms, I was influenced by my dad who was an amazing artist, my aunty who was a beautiful singer, and my grandmother who was the teacher and who has been a guiding light throughout my life and work.

What's your role focused on?

My role is like a 'bridge' between artists, organisations, and the broader community. The focus is on fostering relationships, advocating for First Nations staff, artists, and arts workers, and ensuring their voices are heard and respected. I love having the opportunity to make a real impact and support the vibrant and diverse arts community.

What excites you about this the NSW arts and cultural sector?

So many things! The dynamism and resilience of the arts and culture sector, particularly the First Nations NSW artists and organisations. The potential for growth, the richness of the stories waiting to be told, and the opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive and representative arts landscape are all aspects that I find deeply fulfilling.

"I'm inspired by the resilience and creativity of all First Nations artists who continue to push boundaries and challenge the status quo."

What do you think is Create NSW's biggest strength in responding to challenges facing the sector/First Nations artists/organisations?

Create NSW's biggest strength lies in its commitment to First Nations First, diversity and inclusivity. The organisation's approach in addressing the challenges facing the sector, particularly for First Nations NSW artists, arts and culture workers and organisations, is a step in the right direction. By providing funding, resources, and a platform for these artists, Create NSW plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting First Nations NSW cultures.

Who are you inspired by?

I draw inspiration from the resilience and creativity of all First Nations artists who continue to push boundaries and challenge the status quo. I admire those who are strong, confident, and fearlessly authentic in their truth and storytelling and who use their art to spark conversations to educate and drive opportunity and self-determination for all First Nations people.
