- Luke Twyford has been reappointed as Principal Commissioner of the Queensland Family and Child Commission.
- The QFCC Commissioner will continue in the role for a further three years.
The Crisafulli Government has reappointed Luke Twyford as Principal Commissioner of the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC).
A legal practitioner with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, the Principal Commissioner has extensive experience providing evidence to Australian courts and inquiries, and has also led government responses to royal commissions covering system reform and child voices.
As Principal Commissioner, Mr Twyford will also continue to Chair Queensland's Child Death Review Board, which considers appropriate preventative mechanisms following the death of any child connected to the protection system in the State.
Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said Commissioner Twyford was well regarded by the sector with over 20 years' experience working in child protection reform, youth justice, and governance.
"The Crisafulli Government promised to make child protection a priority and I have full confidence in Commissioner Twyford to recommend measures to strengthen child protection in our State," Ms Frecklington said.
"He is an experienced advocate with a deep understanding of the child and family sector, and his lived experience and passion make him the ideal candidate to continue in this role.
"I know he has the support of leaders in the child protection sector, including that of Daniel Morcombe Foundation co-founder Bruce Morcombe, who has highlighted the Commissioner's dedication as a champion for children's rights, and improvements to child safety systems."
QFCC Principal Commissioner Luke Twyford said the QFCC was fundamental in improving systems that keep children safe.
"It is an incredible honour to be able to continue in my role. To be asked to review the deaths of children, and to amplify the lived experiences of children and families is an incredible obligation that I take seriously," Principal Commissioner Twyford said.
"Over the last three years the Commission and Board have transformed into collaborative regulatory bodies focussed on providing expert advice on complex social issues.
"I will continue to advocate for the safety and wellbeing of children and families in our State, including our most vulnerable," he said.

The Principal Commissioner was first appointed to the role on 25 December 2021, and has been reappointed for a further three-year term.
