QPS Disability Network Unveils Inclusive Recruit Challenge

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has launched its Disability Network, combining three internal disability networks to enhance support of colleagues with disabilities to foster a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

The QPS Accessibility Advisory Network, Disability Link and QPS Nero Diverse Network have amalgamated, with the aim of creating a supportive space for members to share experiences, access resources, and contribute to a more inclusive organisation.

Members will be able to seek more guidance, support, and educational opportunities, as part of the QPS's commitment to ensuring that people with disabilities and those who care for them, can thrive within our organisation.

The launch coincides with Disability Action Week, strengthening the theme of 'Accessible communication: connect, include, empower', by highlighting the importance of removing barriers to communication and making sure everyone has access to information and opportunities regarding of their needs.

QPS Assistant Commissioner Charysse Pond said the network is a significant milestone in the QPS's commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

"By combining our existing support service groups into the Disability Network, we're creating a more cohesive and accessible platform to support our employees with disabilities," Assistant Commissioner Pond said.

"This network will empower our members to share experiences, access resources, and thrive within their careers.

"It's an exciting milestone in our journey toward building a truly inclusive workforce."

As part of Disability Action Week, the QPS hosted a Police Recruit Challenge at Oxley, a friendly competition between QPS recruits, Paralympians and 'Fight for Balance' All Star Athletes.

Participants took part in inclusive activities such as the 60-second Assault Bike Challenge and the All-Champions and Para Swim Relays.

Assistant Commissioner Pond said the event truly champions the spirit of the QPS Disability Network.

"This event brings everyone together to hear and understand the voices of members with lived experience of disability, building meaningful connections along the way, while driving positive change," Assistant Commissioner Pond said.

"It honours the progress made so far while reaffirming our pledge to empower all individuals in the QPS to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable future."

"By integrating support groups and providing a strong foundation for its members, QPS is leading by example in fostering a culture of acceptance and empowerment.
