People who are Blind and/or low vision joined representatives from Council, Vision Australia and Guide Dogs Australia on a walkthrough of the Campbelltown CBD on Tuesday 12 November 2024.
Accompanied by several guide dogs, the walkthrough included a route along Queen Steet, where participants observed and provided feedback on the walkability of Queen Street since the recent accessibility upgrades.
These improvements, informed by a recent accessibility audit, included tactile wayfinding, ramp installations, and the removal of trip hazards.
"We're committed to ensuring that Campbelltown is a welcoming space where everyone can move freely," Mayor Darcy Lound said.
"This walkthrough is a key step in our ongoing commitments as a part of the Disability Inclusion Action 2022-2026 and can help us understand the real impact of our recent efforts as well as highlight where we can continue to enhance accessibility," Cr Lound said.
Council staff engaged with the participants to understand their experiences navigating Campbelltown's CBD.
The insights gathered will guide future designs and projects aimed at fostering an inclusive Campbelltown.
