- Miles Government awards contract for 34 modular homes in Bundaberg
- To be built by Queensland-based Saltair Modular and transported to site
- Forms part of Miles Government's Homes for Queenslanders plan to deliver one million more homes, including 53,500 social homes
- Earlier this year LNP Member for Burnett labelled modular homes built for Bundaberg as "too much".
The Miles Government is delivering on its Homes for Queenslanders plan, with another 34 modular homes for Bundaberg to hit the factory floor.
Member for Bundaberg Tom Smith announced the contract had been awarded for the construction on 24 two-bedroom and 10 one-bedroom modular units destined for Bundaberg's east.
Queensland-based Saltair Modular will start construction very soon, with half of the homes to be built to Gold accessibility standards, aimed at older Queenslanders and people with a disability.
They add to the 16 social homes in Kalkie which started construction last week, and another seven new social homes in Avoca.
The 34 modular homes are among the first to be built as part of the 600 modular homes announced in this year's Budget.
Earlier this year, the LNP's Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett labelled modular homes built for families in Bundaberg as "too much".
All the homes form part of the Miles Government's Homes for Queenslanders plan, which will deliver one million more homes across the state.
As stated by Member for Bundaberg Tom Smith:
"It's the Miles Government that has been doing what matters for Bundaberg – with $1,000 off power bills, 20 per cent off car rego and building more homes locally.
"Unlike the Member for Burnett, I don't believe that modular homes are 'too much' for our community.
"Our community deserves to have every housing option explored, secured, and delivered."
"Modular homes can take a fraction of the time of a traditional build, meaning we can help families get into a home sooner."
As stated by Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:
"To build more homes, faster we're utilising our public builder QBuild and partnering with Queensland businesses to deliver hundreds of modular homes.
"Instead of being part of the solution, the LNP have taken every opportunity to attack modular homes and QBuild.
"The LNP say they're going to match our ambitious targets, but how can you believe them when they bag Queensland businesses and QBuild for building modular homes."
