In a touching celebration of service and dedication, seven officers from the Queensland Police Service (QPS) were honoured at the prestigious King's Birthday 2024 Honours ceremony.
This annual event shines a light on the remarkable contributions and achievements of Australians from all walks of life, and this year, several of QPS' finest were in the spotlight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Ziser was among the recipients of the esteemed Australian Police Medal (APM). Senior Sergeant Ziser's expertise in stolen vehicle identification led to the creation of the Vehicle Identification Platform - Enforcement Response (VIPER).
"It's an honour to be recognised for my work," Senior Sergeant Ziser said.
"VIPER is a testament to the power of innovation and teamwork within the QPS."
Another notable recipient is Sergeant Kelly Gurski, who has devoted 30 years to the QPS. For 14 of those years, she has been a stalwart in the domestic and family violence liaison officer role.
Additionally, since 2012, she has volunteered with RizeUp Australia, an organisation dedicated to supporting victims of domestic and family violence. Sergeant Gurski expressed her gratitude for receiving the prestigious award.
"Being part of RizeUp and walking alongside victim-survivors has been incredibly fulfilling, "she said.
"This medal isn't just for me, it's in recognition of all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence and the impact of trauma, violence, and abuse on your physical, mental and social wellbeing.
"Thank you for trusting me with your lived experiences".
Also receiving an APM is Acting Inspector Robert Richards who was celebrated for his exceptional career since being sworn into the QPS in 1986.
He was recognised for his role as a project manager for the training capability for the G20 Operation Southern Cross. This was the most extensive and complex operation in the Service's 150-year history.
"Managing the training capability for the G20 operation was certainly one career highlight," Acting Inspector Richards said.
"I'm deeply honoured to receive this medal and share this achievement with all the other dedicated members of the QPS."
Each of these officers exemplify the core values of the QPS and their contributions not only enhance our operational capabilities but also make a profound impact on the community.
The King's Birthday 2024 Honours ceremony not only acknowledged these officers' significant achievements but also underscored the vital role that police officers play in maintaining safety and justice in our communities.
