A man wanted on an arrest warrant for an alleged shooting in Queensland has been charged following an alleged high-speed pursuit through the state's Mid North Coast.
Shortly before midnight on Friday 12 December 2024, officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District were conducting speed enforcement checks on the Pacific Highway, Cooperabung, when they detected a hatchback allegedly travelling southbound at 167km/h.
During the pursuit, the vehicle allegedly reached a speed of 230kmh before it slowed down near Haydons Wharf Road.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop, officers initiated a pursuit in Telegraph Point.
The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons a short time later.
Following inquiries, officers from the Tactical Operation Unit attended a unit on Clarence Street, Port Macquarie, where a Taser was used to effect the arrest of a 29-year-old man.
He was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with apprehension on warrant issued in another state.
The man appeared in Port Macquarie Local Court today (Monday 16 December 2024), where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court tomorrow (Tuesday 17 December 2024).
It is understood Queensland Police will apply for his extradition.
