Queensland Unveils 2025 Multicultural Events Calendar

Minister for Child Safety, Minister for Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Multicultural Affairs The Honourable Charis Mullen
  • Queenslanders will celebrate their rich cultural diversity with 119 multicultural events and festivals receiving funding for 2025
  • The Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program supports events through annual funding rounds, including $950,000 for next year's calendar of events

Queensland's vibrant cultural diversity will be celebrated far and wide in 2025 with 119 events and festivals receiving a share of $950,000 in grant funding.

The latest Celebrating Multicultural Queensland funding round includes several exciting new events such as the Jamaica Independence Day on the Gold Coast, Latin Vibes on the Sunshine Coast, and a celebration of the culture of the Pacific Islands and Timor Leste in the Whitsunday region.

The funding round also includes the return of some old favourites, such as the Taste of the World Cultural Festival in Rockhampton and the Eid Down Under festival in Brisbane.

The Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program is offered through Multicultural Affairs Queensland.

It supports events and festivals that increase intercultural connections and social inclusion by bringing together the people of Queensland to build a harmonious, united community.

So far, the Miles Labor Government has invested more than $3.6 million to help deliver 465 events.

Increased investment across the past three years means our annual support for multicultural events and projects is $3 million.

As stated by Minister for Multicultural Affairs Charis Mullen:

"Queenslanders come from all corners of the globe, and that's something to celebrate.

"Our multiculturalism is one of our greatest strengths.

"The Miles Government's vision is one of unity, harmony and inclusion where everyone is supported to connect, contribute and belong.

"Celebrating our cultural diversity through events and festivals is an important part of achieving that vision.

"This is in stark contrast to the actions of the LNP, who cut the Multicultural Affairs Queensland budget by more than 40 per cent, pulling out $9.6 million during their term in office.

"Thanks to our Miles Government investment, next year's calendar of events will include 119 colourful cultural events designed to build bridges between communities and connect us all.

"There will be something for everyone right across the state to enjoy, and I encourage everyone to join in."
