Queenslanders recognised with Australia Day honours

  • More than 100 Queenslanders receive Australia Day honours.
  • Two of only six national recipients appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) are Queenslanders.
  • Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games gold medallists among honours recipients.

The Crisafulli Government is proud to honour 101 great Queenslanders who have received Australia Day honours, recognising their extraordinary contributions to the State.

Queensland's recipients embody the very best of the Queensland spirit, and were announced by the Governor-General Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC.

Some of the Queenslanders recognised include the Scientia Professor Megan David AC, who is honoured for eminent service to the law, social justice, national and international advocacy right of Indigenous people and to the community.

The Honourable Justice James Edelman AC was recognised for eminent service to the law and to the judiciary, to legal education and scholarship, as a mentor to academics and legal practitioners in Australia and internationally, and to the community.

Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) honours have been awarded to Laurie Lawrence for distinguished service to water safety education and to swimming as a high-performance coach, and to Professor John Fraser for distinguished service to medicine as an intensive care physician and surgeon, and to global critical care research.

Lloyd and Sure Clarke have been honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for their dedication and service to domestic violence support and welfare.

Australia's youngest Olympic gold medallist Arisa Trew – who won the women's skateboard title at the Paris Games – has also been awarded an OAM.

Other gold medallists from the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, who can now add OAM after their name, include Emily Beecroft, Korey Boddington, Thomas Gallagher, Shayna Jack, Alexa Leary, Cameron McEvoy, Lani Pallister, Jamie Perkins, Saya Sakakibara, Callum Simpson, and Keira Stephens.

Of the 101 Queensland recipients of Order of Australia honours in the General division, there are five posthumous awards, 26 recipients of Meritorious Service Awards, and 11 people receiving military awards for distinguished and conspicuous service.

Premier David Crisafulli congratulated the Queenslanders who had been recognised for their exceptional achievements.

"The 101 Queenslanders honoured this Australia Day embody the resilience, generosity, hard work, and community service that define our great state," Premier Crisafulli said.

"Their contributions to Queensland inspire us all to be better, and on behalf of all Queenslanders, I want to thank them and congratulate them on their remarkable achievements."

Recipients will be presented with their awards at an Investiture Ceremony, in the coming months, either by the Governor-General of Australia at Government House in Canberra, or by Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland.
