Researchers at the University of Newcastle are seeking to uncover some of the hidden histories of relations between members of the LGBTQ+ community and police between 1950 and 1980.
The research, funded by the local Copley Bequest, aims to consolidate knowledge and understanding of police-queer community relations in Newcastle and share these stories back with the community to encourage ongoing dialogue about the importance of inclusion and diversity.
Dr Justin Ellis and Dr Kate Senior from the University of Newcastle invite members of the LGBTQ+ community in Newcastle and surrounds, who have knowledge and experience of police-queer relations during these years, to tell their stories and have them documented.
Interviews will be conducted between April and June 2021 and will be audio or video recorded at a place of convenience for the interviewee. To participate in the research or obtain further information contact Dr Justin Ellis.
