Communities across Melbourne's growing south-east will get the local train services they deserve under a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government.
The City of Casey is one of Australia's fastest growing communities, with a population expected to reach 550,000 by 2041 - greater than that of Canberra.
Despite this rapid growth, local communities around Clyde and southern Casey lack railway connectivity to the Metro network, worsening congestion and liveability across these areas.
Therefore, a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will extend and fully electrify the Cranbourne railway line to Clyde.
This extension will be built along the existing rail corridor and include:
- New stations in Cranbourne East and Clyde.
- Six road-rail grade separations between Cranbourne and Clyde.
- An upgraded Cranbourne Station.
This extension will be delivered during the first term of a Matt Guy Government and include planning for provision of a possible future extension to Koo Wee Rup.
Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said this important commitment was a real solution to deliver quicker commutes and better connectivity for communities across Melbourne's growing south-east.
"Under this plan, residents across southern Casey will finally be connected to the Metro network, meaning quicker and more reliable travel for hundreds of thousands of Victorians and their families.
"Only a Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver this long overdue project and cut congestion in the rapidly growing south-eastern suburbs of Casey.
Shadow Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Matt Bach, said only the Liberals and Nationals would deliver the public transport Casey communities need and deserve.
"For years, communities across Casey have been neglected and left behind by the Andrews Labor Government."
"It's unacceptable one of Melbourne's fastest growing communities isn't connected to the metropolitan rail network. Only the Liberals and Nationals have real solutions to give Casey residents the public transport options they deserve."
The total cost of this initiative will be $928 million.
