QUT Community Recognised With National Honours

High-performance swim coach and QUT alumnus Laurie Lawrence and critical care researcher Adjunct Professor John Fraser are among members of the QUT community recognised in the Australia Day 2025 Honours List.

From groundbreaking research and innovation to tireless service in education, the arts, and beyond, QUT alumni, staff, and partners continue to make an enduring impact locally and globally.

More than 450 Australians received awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia with six of those receiving the highest honour – the Companion of the Order of Australia.

Among the honourees are:

  • Ms Rosslyn Monro AM, QUT alumnus, appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to social welfare organisations, and to the law.
  • Mr Daryl Scott AM, QUT alumnus, appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to youth in leadership roles, and to the community.
  • Ms Leesa Watego AM, QUT alumnus and former staff member, appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to Indigenous business and media sectors, and to the community.
  • Mr Laurie Lawrence AO, QUT alumnus, appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to water safety education, and to swimming as a high-performance coach.
  • Professor John Fraser AO, Adjunct Professor in the QUT Faculty of Health, appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to medicine as an intensive care physician and surgeon, and to global critical care research.
  • Mr Vincent Ciccarello OAM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to arts administration.
  • Dr Harley Juffs OAM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community through a range of roles.
  • Mrs Lisa Cox OAM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to people with disability.
  • Dr Harley Juffs OAM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community through a range of roles.
  • Mr Graham Mapri OAM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to sport in the Brisbane region.
  • Dr Keith Graham PSM OAM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service in leading Queensland and national school sports recovery in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Ms Belinda Lewis PSM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service to public health policy and program delivery in Queensland's health sector.
  • Mr Luke Mansfield PSM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service through advocacy to disability reform.
  • Ms Deidre Mulkerin PSM, QUT alumnus, awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service to child protection, women's equity and disability services.

QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil AO said she was proud of the honourees, noting their embodiment of the QUT core values.
