The new Rangers joining the Quandamooka Land and Sea Management Agency (QALSMA) are: David Bulsey, Kynan Bulsey, Leroy Kaden-Webb, Edward Kaden, Tariqu Woodbridge, Trey Coghill and Jillian Jacobs. Ryan Borey has been appointed Indigenous Joint Management Agreement Ranger and Tyrese Coghill, Naree Budjong Djara National Park Quandamooka Ranger.
QYAC Chair Cameron Costello said the expansion of the Queensland Government-funded Ranger employment program, was part of the organisation's ongoing commitment to creating a pipeline of new, sustainable jobs and economic transition on the island, following the end of sand-mining.
"We are excited to be opening-up employment opportunities and long-term career pathways for new QYAC Rangers, giving them the opportunity to deliver the best environmental and cultural outcomes for their country," Mr. Costello said today.
"Our Rangers play a key role on Minjerribah, working jointly with Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Rangers on a wide range of responsibilities, including fire, weed and pest management, visitor amenities and infrastructure maintenance; visitor education, and cultural site protection.
"The program is a great example of how QYAC is building a resilient workforce on Minjerribah, delivering economic benefits for both the Quandamooka people and the wider Redlands community."
CEO Stephen Wright said QYAC also welcomed a number of new and returning employees to QYAC, including Business Operations Manager Anna McNee, Project Co-Ordinator Tallulah Mewett and Governance Officer Karmilla Hogerheyde.
Mr. Wright said the expansion of the Ranger Program was among several initiatives supporting economic development on Minjerribah, including a new QBuild modular home being on display at the upcoming Quandamooka Festival, showcasing the Government's policies to improve access to affordable housing.
"It was barged to Minjerribah and has been installed at our Ganaba site, demonstrating the quality, affordability, and sustainability of modular homes for living on country," Mr. Wright added.
