QYAC is a Registered Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) created under the Native Title Act 1993 to manage the recognised Native Title rights and interests of the Quandamooka people following the Determination on the 4 July, 2011.
The AGM saw the election of the following Board members:
- Rosemary Bell for the Junobin (Gonzales) family;
- Leigh McPhail for the Kindarra family;
- Cameron Costello for the Mary Indoole Compignie family;
- Dean Parkin for the Liza Jungerboi family.
QYAC is also pleased to advise that Mr Costello was re-elected Chair at a QYAC Directors meeting held immediately following the AGM.
Mr Costello brings a wealth of organisational knowledge and experience to QYAC, having previously served as the CEO from 2013 to 2020 and was the inaugural Chairperson of its subsidiary company Minjerribah Camping. He has extensive leadership experience, holding positions on local, state, and national Boards and Committees including the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, the Queensland Government's Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy Committee and the Brisbane City Council Reconciliation Action Plan Advisory Group.
Commenting on the AGM outcome, Mr Costello said: "We had a great turn out and we thank our members for their continued support and engagement. There is a lot of good will for us to succeed and there is much work to be done now moving forward. I congratulate our returning Board members and on behalf of the Board, I would also like to thank our outgoing Board members, for their service to QYAC and our members."
Mr Costello added: "I am deeply humbled and honoured to serve another 12 month term as Chair. I look forward to working with our Board and staff to continue to drive our Strategic Plan for QYAC, strengthening our engagement with the local community, industry, local governments, and the new Crisafulli Queensland Government to deliver Native Title outcomes, new job opportunities, eco-tourism and economic development for the Quandamooka people."
