The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners welcomes digital medical referral and secure messaging service HealthLink pausing the rollout of new fees for GPs using the platform and its commitment to further consultation with the profession.
RACGP President Dr Michael Wright thanked HealthLink for listening to GPs across Australia.
"After meeting with the RACGP, I'm pleased that HealthLink have offered to pause any changes and consult with us and their clients on a solution," he said.
"There is no substitute for the quality care you get from a GP who knows you, and your history. This care is essential, and it needs to be affordable and accessible for everyone in Australia.
"Digital health initiatives are critical for general practice and helping to improve the health of Australians, but GPs need support for universal uptake. And these systems should be interoperable.
"After decades of underfunding of Medicare, what we really don't need is unexpected additional costs."
