Royal Randwick will play host to the best horses from across NSW and the world at tomorrow's $20m Everest and $2m Kosciusko.
Shadow Minister for Racing Kevin Anderson said The Kosciuszko puts the bush on the map, giving regional horses, owners, and trainers the opportunity to compete in front of record crowds at Sydney's iconic racing venue.
"The $2 million race features 14 NSW country-trained gallopers, in what is the richest race in the world for country horses," Mr Anderson said.
"The Kosciusko will be a statewide affair, including plenty of regional trainers with the likes of Cody Morgan from Tamworth with Broken Hill, Brett Robb from Dubbo with Sizzle Minizzle, Nick Olive from Queanbeyan with Kimberly Secret and Matthew Dunn from Murwillumbah with Derry Grove.
"It won't just be an incredible spectacle for racegoers to attend, but it also provides a unique opportunity for regular punters to partner with owners and trainers for a share in a horse."
Meanwhile The Everest is the world's richest race on turf, with Australia's top trainers and breeders setting their horses for the $20 million event.
"More than 90,000 people are directly involved in the NSW thoroughbred racing industry with the flow on effects felt far and wide, benefiting businesses across the transport, accommodation and hospitality sectors to boost the NSW economy," Mr Anderson said.
"Events like The Everest are important to the cultural and economic make-up of our State and it's great to see the event go from strength to strength."
Both The Everest and Kosciuszko races at Royal Randwick continue to attract worldwide attention with organizers aiming to attract 50,000 people to Randwick on Saturday.
