A range of the City's outdoor sport and recreation facilities will reopen, under new COVID-19 restrictions that come into effect for regional Victoria from today.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said confirmation that the regional lockdown had ended was fantastic news.
"The community has done a great job following the restrictions and supporting local businesses over the past seven days," Mayor Asher said.
"Businesses are only just recovering from the impacts of previous lockdowns and with Melbourne's lockdown continuing, I encourage community members to keep showing their support to help them through this tough time."
The City has confirmed that under the new regional restrictions, the following facilities can reopen subject to density limits and patron caps:
- Kardinia Aquatic Centre's outdoor pool (reopens today, bookings required);
- Lara, Balyang Par 3 and Queens Park golf courses (reopens Saturday, bookings required);
- Belmont Market (held on Sunday, outdoor stalls only);
- Outdoor community sport, leisure and recreation facilities;
- Outdoor skate parks and bike parks;
- The Potato Shed (for select use);
- The National Wool Museum shop; and
- Breamlea Caravan Park.
"The re-opening of many of the City's facilities, in line with restrictions, is a positive step towards the region getting back to a sense of normality," Mayor Asher said.
The City is awaiting detailed information on the government's directions before determining under what conditions other impacted facilities would be able to reopen.
Visitors are reminded that it is a Government requirement for regional Victoria businesses to check their customers' IDs, to verify they are not from the Metropolitan Melbourne area.
The ID check is required due to different levels of restrictions between the two areas, with Melbourne set to remain in a stricter lockdown through to next Thursday.
Visitors are encouraged to be understanding of the need for this process and to check in to facilities via the QR code.
"To our Melbourne friends; we look forward to welcoming you back to our special region, but please help keep your community stay safe by staying at home and following the restrictions," Mayor Asher said.
