Raptor Squad Charges Two Men for Goulburn Inmate Assault

Raptor Squad detectives have charged two men over the alleged stabbing and assault of an inmate at a correctional facility in Goulburn earlier this year.

About 9.30am on Saturday 17 February 2024, police were called to a correctional facility in Goulburn, after reports of an assault.

Officers from The Hume Police District were told two inmates were involved in an altercation before staff intervened.

A 45-year-old inmate sustained a superficial injury to his neck; however, he did not require any further treatment.

Local police commenced initial inquiries, before the matter was referred to State Crime Command's Raptor Squad who established Strike Force Coded to investigate.

Following extensive inquiries, on Tuesday 17 December 2024, strike force detectives attended correctional centre in Goulburn where they charged two men, aged 44 and 28.

The older man was charged with recruit other to assist in carrying out criminal activity, knowingly/recklessly direct criminal group assist crime, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 27 February 2025.

The younger man was charged with use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, participate criminal group contribute criminal, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Goulburn Local Court on Monday 24 February 2025.

Police will allege in court the older man used an FM Radio website chat function to communicate his instructions to coordinate the stabbing, which the younger man carried out for money.
