Mildura Mayor Jason Modica has welcomed RayGen's plans for a multimillion dollar solar hydro power plant in the Mallee, which he says will further cement the region's reputation as a hotspot for innovative solar technology and stimulate the local economy.
"This 3MW/50MWh facility at Carwarp is a significant investment in our region and economy," Cr Modica said.
"The attention such an innovative and large-scale project of this type will generation for our area nationally and internationally will be invaluable.
"Equally invaluable will be the jobs and economic stimulus it creates for our community during the construction phase and once operational.
"I'd like to thank RayGen for selecting Carwarp as the location for this project, and the Australian Government for its considerable support for this power plant."
Cr Modica said this week's announcement follows the recent inclusion of Mildura in the largest emissions reduction project ever undertaken in the local government sector in Australia - the Victorian Energy Collaboration.
"Our region is really building momentum in terms of reducing emissions and increasing use of renewable energy and ReyGen's decision to build its state-of-the-art facility is another major step forward in this regard."
