National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke today with South African National Security Advisor Sydney Mufamadi. Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Mufamadi reaffirmed President Biden and President Ramaphosa's commitment to strengthen the U.S-South Africa bilateral relationship. Mr. Sullivan pledged support to the people and government of South Africa in response to the deadly floods in Kwa Zulu Natal. He also emphasized the United States' continued readiness to work closely with South Africa to address the crisis in Ukraine; enhance our partnership on trade and investment, health systems and health security, and climate change; and support counterterrorism and regional security efforts. They highlighted the need for an immediate end to Russia's aggression in Ukraine, and shared views on addressing the impact on supply chains, commodity prices, and food security in Africa.
