Real-time Goes Live On Hobart Buses

Tasmanian Government

Real-time information is now available for Hobart bus services, as a state-wide roll out gets underway.

Minister for Transport, Eric Abetz, said the Tasmanian Government had delivered on its commitment to introduce real-time tracking for buses this year.

"I'm pleased to announce that real-time information is now available for Hobart bus services operated by Kinetic and Metro Tasmania, plus our Derwent Ferries service between Hobart and Bellerive," Minister Abetz said.

"Real-time tracking puts up-to-the-minute public transport information in the palm of your hand, so you can see how far away your bus or ferry is.

"It offers peace-of-mind by showing exactly when your bus or ferry is arriving.

Public transport customers can use the interactive map to find their bus stop location and see approaching buses, as well as how many minutes away each bus is from the selected stop.

"This is an important step in creating a more reliable, convenient and accessible public transport network for all Tasmanians.

"This initiative builds on our commitment through the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future to improve public transport for Tasmanians. This includes delivering a new state-wide smart ticketing system and providing half-price fares until 30 June 2025.

"The Government is working with public transport operators and transport technology provider Mattersoft to complete the rollout of the integrated real-time tracking platform across the state.

"It will be applied to all general access services provided by Kinetic, Metro Tasmania, Tassielink, Manions Coaches and Calow's Coaches.

"As we roll out the real-time platform, we'll monitor and review how it's working, so that we can provide the best experience we can for public transport passengers.

"We are also working with Google to get real-time tracking on the Google Maps app as soon as possible and Metro is in the process of updating its app to include real time information as part of its journey planner. I look forward to both of these going live in the new year."
