Reappeal for information after fatal pedestrian crash - state's north

Police have renewed their appeal for information after a man died following a collision on the north coast earlier this month.

Just after midnight on Sunday 1 May 2022, emergency services were called to the northbound lanes on the M1 Motorway, near the intersection of Sexton Hill Drive, Chinderah, after reports a pedestrian had been struck by two vehicles.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics who rendered aid to a 19-year-old man; however, he was unable to be revived.

The drivers of the two vehicles – a 36-year-old woman who was driving a Mitsubishi Pajero, and a 52-year-old man who was driving a Toyota Hiace Bus – were uninjured and taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and inquiries commenced.

As investigations into the incident continue, police are appealing for anyone with information or dash camera footage between the evening of Saturday 30 April 2022 and the morning of Sunday 1 May 2022 around the M1 Motorway, Chinderah, to come forward.

Police are also looking to speak to motorists who were driving in both northerly and southerly directions from Chinderah Service Centre to Barneys Point Bridge to contact Tweed Heads Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
