Recognising Achievements Of Victorian Refugees

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is calling for community members to nominate refugees who have made significant contributions to our state for the 2022 Victorian Refugee Awards.

The awards are open to people who arrived in Australia as refugees or asylum seekers, and recognise the achievements and resilience shown by the winners in rebuilding their lives in Victoria.

The annual awards honour people, businesses and organisations who have excelled through their study, work, entrepreneurship or volunteering in Victoria. Multiple awards will be presented across four categories: achievement, leadership, youth leadership and business.

Nominees may have received an excellent result in their education, volunteered in their community, run a successful business, or perhaps supported other refugees to thrive. Individuals are also encouraged to self-nominate.

Winners will be announced as part of Refugee Week, which runs from Sunday 19 June to Saturday 25 June 2022.

Nominations are open until Tuesday 12 April.

As stated by Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ros Spence

"From business to the community sector to the arts, refugees and asylum seekers have helped build our state - and these awards recognise those incredible contributions."

"If you know a refugee who is doing great things in our community, I urge you to nominate them."

As stated by VictorianMulticultural Commission Chairperson Vivienne Nguyen

"These awards will raise community awareness of the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers, the stories they share and their ongoing achievements and contributions in Victoria."

"We're excited to relaunch the Victorian Refugee Awards in 2022 and encourage you to nominate yourself or someone else for one of the four categories."
