Record-breaking Retail Trade In Tasmania

Tasmanian Government

Monthly retail trade in Tasmania is continuing to break records, reaching an all-time high of $741.8 million in February 2025.

The 12 months to February 2025 showed retail trade in Tasmania reached $8.74 billion – another record and 65 per cent higher than the 12 months to March 2014, when our Liberal Government was elected.

Treasurer, Guy Barnett, said the continued growth of Tasmania's retail sector is an indicator that our economy is resilient, giving Tasmanian businesses further confidence to invest and grow.

"These numbers are incredibly important, as they show our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is delivering confidence in the community," Treasurer Barnett said.

"Consumers continue to spend even though there is pressure on household budgets, giving the Tasmanian business community a lot of confidence to continue to employ and invest.

"The latest NAB survey bears this out with Tasmania ranked first in Business Confidence and second in Business Conditions, 11 index points above the national average.

"We are backing business, backing jobs and backing the economy and this continued growth is a positive outcome.

"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we will continue to deliver a stronger economy for all Tasmanians."
