A cold airmass saw temperatures drop overnight in Western Australia.
In Perth the temperature dropped to 0.7°C this morning, making it the coldest morning since 13 July 2016 when the area experienced a minimum of 0.6°C.
The record for the Perth metropolitan is -0.7°C which was recorded on 17 June 2006.
Jandakot recorded -0.9°C this morning, making it the coldest morning at this location since 13 July 2016. The current minimum temperature record for Jandakot is -3.4°C which was recorded on 17 June 2006.
Some other locations that recorded cold overnight temperatures include:
- -2.5°C at Wandering
- -2.4°C at Gingin
- -2.3°C at Collie East
Other sites in Western Australia recorded new June records yesterday, including:
- 9°C maximum temperature at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport
- 5°C maximum temperature at Rottnest Island
Cold and wet in the north
A cloud band stretching from the Kimberley in Western Australia to Victoria, covering a large portion of Australia has brought unseasonal cold temperatures and widespread rainfall.
Day time temperatures are currently 6 to 10???C below average and may drop as much as 8 to 14???C towards the end of the week.
In the last 24 hours, central and western Kimberley have received 25 to 50 mm of rain, with isolated rainfall totals up to 70 mm.
Widespread rainfall between 25 to 50 mm is expected through parts of the Kimberley and northeast Interior while 50 to 100 mm of rainfall is expected through central Kimberley for the remainder of the week.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Desert and Kimberley catchments
The cloud band wanes temporarily on Wednesday before peaking again on Friday and finally moving out of Western Australia by Sunday.
