Warrnambool City Council has allocated a record $255,428 through its latest Community Development Fund (CDF) round.
This will be distributed to 71 eligible clubs and local organisations for projects which contribute to the liveability of the city in categories which include sport and recreation, arts and culture, environment and sustainability and festivals and events.
"This year Council made some changes to the funding guidelines which acknowledged the impact of COVID-19," Warrnambool Mayor Cr Tony Herbert said.
"We removed the requirement for contributions from clubs and in addition, through the budget process, we allocated an addition $125,000 into the CDF and allowed clubs and groups to apply for a grant of up to $5,000, up from $3,000.
"The COVID-19 pandemic put additional strain on community groups to attract and retainmembers or to generate the income required to match grant funding, therefore limiting their ability to apply for funding at a time that it is most needed.
"The CDF has a long tradition of helping clubs and groups get projects off the ground and it's no different this year.
"There is real value added to these grants by the recipients with the $255,000 in bringing to life projects valued at $877,000.
"The recipients are also encouraged to seek local quotes for any required work so there is a wider economic benefit to the community.
"We've an amazing array of grant recipients and it illustrates just how well a diverse range of interests and pursuits can thrive in Warrnambool.
"This is the stuff of liveability."
