The McGowan Government's female friendly facilities initiative continues to encourage greater female participation in sport, with a record investment in women's sport. More than $3 million has been allocated to infrastructure projects which include new and upgraded change rooms that are suitable for women.
Among the projects funded by the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund's (CSRFF) Annual and Forward Planning grants are upgrades of the change rooms at the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley's Clarrie Cassidy Oval in Wyndham and the City of Cockburn's Goodchild Park pavilion.
Other projects are:
- $400,000 to the Shire of Murray for the construction of a sports pavilion at South Yunderup Oval;
- $300,000 to the Shire of Chittering for construction of a pavilion at Muchea Oval;
- $500,000 to the City of Armadale for the construction of a pavilion at William Skeet Reserve;
- $400,000 to the Town of Cottesloe for the replacement of Anderson Pavilion;
- $232,833 to the City of Canning for the upgrade of change rooms at Coker Park, Cannington;
- $400,000 to the Town of Cambridge for the construction of change rooms and storage at Alderbury Sportsground, Floreat.
The CSRFF Annual and Forward Planning grants enable local not-for-profit sport, recreation or community groups and local governments to develop the infrastructure to increase participation in sport and recreation.
The program prioritises projects that use some of the allocated funding to create environments where women are more likely to feel comfortable and participate in sport.
This may include change room upgrades, lockable showers and more toilet cubicles in place of urinals.
The funding is part of $12 million through the CSRFF fast tracked earlier this year to support WA's economy and create jobs as part of the State's COVID-19 recovery.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
"Encouraging women and girls to get out and enjoy sport and active recreation is a priority of this government.
"Making sure that these funded projects take women's needs into account is extremely important.
"The McGowan Government is demonstrating its commitment to women's sport with this important grant program and its commitment to our local communities."
