After delivering its highest ever annual investment in roads and capital works on record last year, Cessnock City Council has not only met but exceeded these records in its final budget outcome for FY23/24.
The data shows a record $15.1 million was spent on road maintenance in the past 12 months, an increase of 38 per cent from the previous year and more than double the three-year average to FY21/22.
New records were also set for capital works spend on roads projects, as well as the overall capital budget, which also includes spend in other categories such as recreation & community facilities and stormwater & flood mitigation.
Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal welcomed the final budget outcome, and congratulated Council on its continued strong performance of delivering projects for the community.
"Since becoming Mayor in 2021, I've encouraged Council to get out there and deliver even more for our community," said Clr Suvaal.
"I'm thrilled to see that Cessnock City Council is spending more on road maintenance, road capital works and overall capital works than ever before.
"I want to acknowledge the hard-working Council teams that have made this possible.
"There is still more work to do, but the figures from the last 12 months, and the results seen on the ground, show we are listening to and delivering on the needs of our community!"
