The Territory's thriving Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector has contributed a record number of nominations for the 2020 Northern Territory Training Awards, to be held in September.
Finalists have today been announced from 103 nominations across 12 categories, including 82 individual nominations and 21 organisational nominations.
The 2020 finalists represent a wide range of industries including construction, IT, education, fitness business, engineering, electro technology, environmental science conservation and land management, digital media and technology and community engagement.
Nominations were received from all over the Territory including Darwin, Nhulunbuy, Alice Springs and Katherine and remote communities.
Now is it 65th year, the Northern Territory Training Awards celebrate the best of the Territory's VET sector and recognises the outstanding contribution made by local trainees, apprentices, employers and training providers.
Some winners go on the represent the Territory at the Australian Training Awards.
As noted by Minister for Workforce Training, Selena Uibo.
"The Territory Labor Government's number one priority is jobs and thanks to our $93 million Skilling the Territory Investment Plan, our VET sector is thriving.
"Last financial year, there were more than 3400 apprentices and trainees in-training in the Territory. Apprenticeships and traineeships are integral to ensuring the Territory maintains a skilled workforce that meets current and future needs of employers and industry.
"The Territory is actively working together to rebound from coronavirus by investing in more VET opportunities to enable Territorians to reskill, upskill and fill jobs during this pandemic and on the other side of it.
"It is now more important than ever that we continue to celebrate and appreciate the achievements and hard work exhibited by the VET sector.
"I congratulate all our finalists and look forward to once again celebrating the best and brightest of our VET sector in September."
