Record Number Of Victorians In Jobs 12 December

VIC Premier

More Victorians than ever are in a job - with the Allan Labor Government backing business to create jobs, secure Victoria's economic future and turbocharge growth.

Today's Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data show that an additional 10,900 Victorians started work in November, taking the state's total workforce number to more than 3.8 million - the highest number of Victorians employed on record.

The state's unemployment rate fell in November to 4.2 per cent and is well below the high 6.7 per cent unemployment rate left by the former Coalition Government in 2014.

The share of Victorians in a job is at near record highs with around 130,000 Victorians securing employment over the past 12 months.

Employment growth across Victoria shows the underlying strength of the Victorian economy, which is now 11.5 per cent larger in real terms than before the pandemic.

Today's data comes after the Government launched its Economic Growth Statement this week - which included more than 40 initiatives to deliver a stronger economy for our state.

The statement identified five priority sectors and a new $20 million Victorian Industry Development Fund that will further sharpen Victoria's competitive advantage.

The Government is focused on delivering its economic plan to create jobs, support families and boost investment.

As stated by Treasurer Tim Pallas

"Victoria has led the nation in economic growth, jobs growth, and business investment growth over the last decade."

"More Victorians in work shows that the economy is booming backed by our plan that is driving economic growth and creating jobs."
