There are now more police on the beat than ever with Tasmania Police delivering the largest ever cohort of recruits in training at one time.
During the graduation of 42 new recruits last Friday, there were 111 recruits on the ground – a record number of recruits in training at one time.
The Tasmanian Government has grown its police force more than 30 per cent over the past ten years, a feat that would not have been possible without the commitment of the everyday Tasmanians who have put their hand up to serve their communities.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis said our newest recruits have come from a range of backgrounds, but all answered the call to help make Tasmania a safer place.
"This newest cohort varies in age from 19 to 45 and each person brings their own life experience to the job. We have farm and retail workers, tradespeople, ex-defence force members and teacher assistants," Minister Ellis said.
"After honing their policing skills with a strong 'back-to-basics' focus, our new constables have been able to jump straight from the academy into our 24-hour Police stations and bolster our frontline.
"If you see one of our new constables out and about in the coming weeks, go and say g'day to the everyday Tasmanians that've put their hand up to keep you safe.
"There is no doubt about it, we are growing our police force and this time next year we will have more police on the beat, in every region of our State.
"We heard very clearly from Tasmanians that they want a government who keeps them safe, and that's exactly what we are doing under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future," he said.
