Recruit Joins Police Legacy Before QPS Career

Run Army is returning to Brisbane and Townsville this March and April to celebrate health and wellbeing, while raising much needed funds for Emergency Services.

The annual fundraising event brings community members together to participate in either a 5km or 10km fun run or walk, with participants electing an emergency services charity to raise money for.

For QPS members, it's an opportunity to fundraise for the Queensland Police Legacy which supports the families of officers who've lost their lives on duty or due to illness.

Among the thousands of people participating in this year's event is Queensland Police Service (QPS) Recruit Morgan Owens.

Having worked for QPS for two and a half years, Recruit Owens is a passionate member of the blue family who has made the leap from Protective Services and Police Communications roles to join the frontline.

Graduating this September, Recruit Owens is looking forward to a second year taking part in the fundraising event and enjoys the comradery that comes with running for a good cause.

"Run Army is important to me because the event recognises and supports those who serve, whether it's out on the streets in our local communities or on deployments overseas," Recruit Owens said.

"I love that 100 per cent of donations goes directly to your chosen charity and this year I'm running 10km for Queensland Police Legacy."

Queensland Police Legacy (QPL), founded in 1971, is a vital not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting families of QPS officers who have lost their lives on duty or due to illness, as well as those diagnosed with a terminal illness.

"I love the energy and the comradery that the event fosters between different services and the community who supports us, as well as the fact that you could be running with your neighbour, a high-ranking officer or even the Premier," Recruit Owens said.

"Everyone is out for the same reason and that's to show our support to the front lines.

"I'm proud to be running for Police Legacy knowing that I am supporting police families when they are dealing with the loss or terminal illness of a loved one."

Run Army is a fun and challenging event that caters to different levels of fitness and ability, encouraging all community members to participate in support of emergency services personnel.

This year's events will take place in Brisbane on March 30 and Townsville on April 6, and those unable to be there on the day can still take part by participating in a virtual event.

No matter how you choose to get involved, whether it's walking, running, or donating, you are playing a direct role in supporting Queensland Police Legacy and those who protect and serve the Queensland community.
