The National Waste Policy provides a national framework for waste and resource recovery in Australia.
It also highlights the importance of working together and outlines the roles and responsibilities for everyone - businesses, governments, communities and individuals.
Case study
The Recycling Modernisation Fund (RMF) was established to address the gaps in Australia's recycling capability.
The RMF expands Australia's capacity to sort, process and remanufacture glass, plastic, tyres, paper and cardboard.
Combined with contributions from the states and territories, and third parties, investment through the RMF is expected to exceed $1 billion. This includes funding for more than 140 new and upgraded recycling facilities.
These new investments are projected to create over 3,000 new jobs around Australia. They also expect to increase Australia's recycling capacity by over 1.3 million tonnes each year.
