The centrepiece of Councl's nature walk and fitness experiences is to be given a $1.24 million overhaul.
Extensive works to renew, repair and upgrade sections on the eastern side of the Red Arrow Trail are set to start in July.
The project, approved by Council today, will include the demolition of the existing steps and asphalt paths, replacement of bench seats and pedestrian bridges, renewal of retaining walls and drainage recitation.
New steps will be constructed using natural porphyry stone, and sections of the track will be re-graded to deliver a more desirable gradient and meet current Grade 3 Walking Track requirements.
It is anticipated that the eastern side of the Red Arrow Track will be closed during the renewal works for a period of four to six months (subject to weather impacts).
Where possible, sections of the track will be left open for use.
Weaves through a scenic route of bamboo groves and eucalypt forest, the 1.3km
The Red Arrow Trail is one of Cairns' most popular natural trails, offering a scenic 1.3 km circuit through the stunning Mt Whitfield Conservation Park, just behind the Cairns Botanical Gardens.
The project is one of Council's key advocacy priorities ahead of the 2025 Federal election.
