RED Grant Paves Way For Albany's Newest Microbrewery

  • Construction of Albany's Dune Brewery nearing completion
  • New microbrewery to boost Albany's tourism and hospitality offering
  • Project supported by $150,000 Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant

Premier Roger Cook visited Albany's new family-friendly microbrewery, Dune Brewery, as construction draws close to completion, thanks to support from the State Government's Regional Economic Development program.

The Premier toured the new brewery with Regional Development Minister Don Punch, ahead of their official opening in November.

The world-class facility will feature a restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, a play area highlighting Menang storytelling, and a menu rich with Great Southern food, wine, and Dune's range of craft beers.

Dune Brewery successfully secured a $150,000 RED Grant in Round 3 of the program in 2020, with State Government support laying the foundation for the project.

The Albany-based business is poised to diversify the regional hospitality and tourism industries and create employment and training opportunities for the community.

Since 2018, the Cook Labor Government has committed more than $55 million over 10 years towards the RED Grants program, diversifying regional economies and creating hundreds of new jobs in the regions.

Successful recipients of the seventh round of the RED Grants program are set to be announced in the coming weeks, with a record $10 million funding available this year to support locally-driven projects across regional Western Australia.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"Providing funding for new regional ventures like Dune Brewery, shows my Government's commitment to backing local businesses and creating sustainable jobs in our regions.

"Projects like this are great examples of how local people with big ideas can contribute to building their community.

"Dune Brewery is an exciting addition to Albany, and I'm looking forward to enjoying a drink and a meal at their beautiful venue once they open in November."

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

"The RED Grants program supports local projects that deliver real economic impact and create more jobs throughout Western Australia.

"In the Great Southern alone, the program has provided more than $4 million to 42 projects across the region.

"The creation of sustainable jobs, diversification of the economy and skill development are key features of this project by Dune Brewery and of successful regional development."

As stated by Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

"The team at Dune have been working hard to provide Albany with a new and exciting venue, with something for the whole family.

"Dune will be a real asset to the region's hospitality and tourism sectors, further enriching the Great Southern's renowned food, wine, and beverage landscape.

"Congratulationsto the Dune Brewery team on reaching this final stage of construction; I speak for many in the community when I say I am looking forward to the opening."
