Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan and Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke have officially opened the upgraded Jarrahfall Bushcamp in Dwellingup, another successful Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant-backed project.
The McGowan Government provided a $170,000 RED Grant towards the Jarrahfall Bushcamp upgrade as part of Round Three of the program.
Jarrahfall has been operating as a purpose-built outdoor adventure camp and accommodation facility for almost 30 years, and had reached its maximum capacity.
The project has delivered a new 200-seat mess hall and activity centre, a new 80-bed bunkhouse and renovations of existing facilities.
It has increased Jarrahfall's capacity to host large-scale events, from school camps to weddings and corporate functions.
Since completion, Jarrahfall's weekend occupancy has increased by more than 200 per cent, and the business has employed six new full-time staff, four part-time staff and five trainees.
The McGowan Government has committed $45.8 million over eight years towards the RED Grants program.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
"Our RED Grants are delivering tangible economic results right across the regions - creating jobs, supporting local businesses and diversifying regional economies.
"Our investment helped Jarrahfall Bushcamp take their expansion project forward, and the increase in visitor numbers is paying off for the entire Dwellingup community.
"Throughout the project construction, Jarrahfall had a strong focus on ensuring the project benefited local business, and contracted local trades who used local staff and products."
As stated by Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:
"The Jarrahfall project, with its now increased visitor capacity and upgraded facilities, is contributing directly to job creation and strengthening the tourism industry through visitation in the Dwellingup area.
"It's great to see Jarrahfall already bringing on more than 10 new staff and trainees as a result of this investment - from camp instructors and cooks to cleaners and administration staff."
