Reflect, Respect And Celebrate This Australia Day

Mark your calendars for a chance to reflect, respect and celebrate this Australia Day with a number of activities along The Strand and Jezzine Barracks.

You can kick off the day with a run, jog or a walk in the 5km Aussie Fun Run along Jezzine Barracks, followed by the free Aussie Breakfast at 8am.

Australia Day formalities will begin at 9am with the flag raising ceremony, followed by the Australia Day Awards ceremony and the citizenship ceremony.

Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said this Australia Day was focused on how each Townsville resident and visitor wanted to spend the day.

"Australia Day is a day that means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, which is why Council is encouraging all residents to reflect, respect and celebrate in their own way this year," Cr Greaney said.

"We're starting Australia Day at Jezzine Barracks with the Aussie Fun Run, which is a great way to kick the day off. The 5km run costs a gold coin donation to enter, with all proceeds going to Brighter Lives Townsville Hospital Foundation to help brighten the lives of patients at Townsville Hospital.

"We will also have our Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony with a Royal Guard of Honour, the raising of the flags and a 21-gun salute.

"Our Australia Day Awards Ceremony will follow, recognising the outstanding commitments made by Townsville residents to our wonderful community.

"I'm also very pleased to say we'll be welcoming about 50 new citizens to our community at our Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, which is very special."

Townsville's Big Eye Theatre will be hosting Kunbul Survival Day from 5:30am on Australia Day at Strand Park.
