  • New Regional Education Strategy to strengthen public education in regional, rural and remote locations
  • Strategy will provide a framework to guide more effective delivery of education in these settings, and expand on post-school options for students
  • Targeted consultation with key stakeholders will now commence

Minister for Education Dr. Tony Buti has today announced a Regional Education Strategy (Strategy), to bring together existing investments in regional, rural and remote education.

The Strategy will provide a framework to guide more effective delivery of education, focusing on improved educational and wellbeing opportunities.

To ensure the Strategy meets the needs of students, families and communities in regional areas, targeted consultation on the Strategy will now commence.

The Strategy will also focus on ensuring all young people leave school with the knowledge and skills they need to access higher education, further training, or to participate in the workforce and contribute to society.

More information about the consultation process, along with the Minister's statement of intent, can be found on the Department of Education website.

Comments attributed to Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

"Our State's geography and demographics are vastly different across our regional areas, as are the needs of children and young people and the schools they attend.

"I want to hear from these families and school communities about how we can continue to enhance the education opportunities for students in regional, rural and remote areas of Western Australia.

"Since 2017, the State Government has invested in a number of initiatives in this space and the idea is this proposed strategy will bring them together and provide a clear way forward.

"The Regional Education Strategy will be built around the voice and needs of regional communities and their schools."
