- Port Hedland and South Hedland named State winner of WA Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards
- Awards recognise sustainability efforts in regional and remote communities
Regional and remote communities have cleaned up at this year's WA Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards with Port Hedland and South Hedland to represent Western Australia at the national competition in May next year.
The awards - which have been running for 55 years - recognise sustainable, litter-free communities by celebrating initiatives such as litter prevention, environmental education, preserving heritage, community action, and youth leadership.
Port Hedland and South Hedland, which were also finalists in several other categories, won the overall award after having most recently been named the State winner in 2012.
They will now represent WA at the National Tidy Town Awards, which will be held in Victoria in May 2025.
The WA Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards are funded by the State Government through the Waste Authority and supported by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.

As stated by Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby:
"These awards have highlighted the valuable collaboration taking place throughout Western Australia for more than 50 years, and I would like to congratulate all entrants, finalists and winners on setting such an inspirational example.
"They stand as a testament to the dedication regional and remote communities show towards making WA a more sustainable place to live."
