Relief for Cecil Plains as Council winds back water restrictions

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will wind back restrictions in Cecil Plains from Medium Level to Low Level effective immediately.

The decision comes after localised winter rain increased water levels at Leslie Dam near Warwick along with good upstream flows and a full Cecil Plains' weir.

TRC Water and Waste Committee Chair Councillor Rebecca Vonhoff said recent rainfall was good news for Cecil Plains' water supply which is drawn from the local weir.

"After some good rainfall in recent weeks, including heavy falls in and around Warwick, Cecil Plains' water sources have been restored," Cr Vonhoff said.

"After careful consideration Council decided to wind back restrictions to Low level.

"Cecil Plains was placed on High level water restrictions in 2019.

"Restrictions are only easing for Cecil Plains. The Region as a whole is still being impacted by drought."

Cr Vonhoff said restrictions and water saving measures remain in place.

"Other towns and districts around Cecil Plains rely on ground water sources for their water supply. At this stage, we have not seen increase in water levels in those bores to allow us to relax restrictions anywhere else but we will continue to monitor groundwater levels in these locations weekly," Cr Vonhoff said.

Most areas across the region remain on Medium level restrictions with High level restrictions still in place for residents at Cambooya, Clifton, Vale View and Yarraman.

UnderLow Level water restrictions each person in a household should be using 200 litres of water or less each day.

A range of other outdoor activities such as watering gardens, vehicle washing, fillings pools, general cleaning, animal husbandry and pet care allowances are listed on the TRC website at www.tr.qld.gov.au/water
