Townsville residents can dispose of domestic waste at any of Council's waste facilities with no charge this weekend (22 - 25 October).
Mayor Jenny Hill said the free tipping weekend gave residents the opportunity to clean up their house and yard ahead of the storm season.
"As we approach November, now is the perfect time to get your property ready for our traditional wet season and any natural disasters which may impact the community," Cr Hill said.
"Whether it be a good old-fashioned clean-up, doing that tip run you've been putting off for weeks now, or trimming a few trees and cleaning up the garden, our community has four days to visit our transfer stations for free."
Normal opening hours for Council's five waste facilities will apply, being:
Location | Opening Hours |
---|---|
Stuart | 6:30am – 5:45pm daily |
Hervey Range | 7am – 4:45pm daily |
Magnetic Island | 7am – 3:45pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 9am – 12noon Saturday and Sunday |
Toomulla | 7:30am – 4:30pm Saturday |
Bluewater | 7.30am – 4:30pm Saturday and Sunday |
"It's also a good reminder to have a think about what can be recycled, repurposed or reused to try to limit our impact on the environment and what ends up in landfill," Cr Hill said.
"Previous free tipping weekends have proven popular, so Council thanks the community for their patience if the facility they are attending is busy when they first arrive. Our crews will get you through as efficiently as possible.
"If you are only planning to dispose of green waste and recyclables, this is a reminder that these can be taken to our waste facilities for free all year around.
"Those residents unable to get to our tips can also access our kerbside collection service. Bookings for this can be made by visiting Council's website or by calling 13 48 10."
