Renewed Park With Playground, Dog Park Now Open

Townsville families can now enjoy a brand-new outdoor experience at the freshly renewed Riverside Green Park at Douglas.

The open space renewal project started in June and included construction of a new playground, shade sails, picnic shelters, barbecue, and associated landscape and drainage. To accommodate the new playground, the small dog off-leash area was relocated with new shade shelters installed and a new entry point to the main dog off-leash area.

Divisional councillor Suzy Batkovic said stage one of the project was now complete for families to enjoy.

"Riverside Green is a much-loved open space, which is why Council invested $1,085,000 into the renewal of the playground and amenities," Cr Batkovic said.

"The final touch to the playground will be the inclusive seat on the five-bay swing, which is expected to be installed in the coming weeks.

"I've already had great feedback from residents who have visited the fun new park and have used the playground through to the dog park and everything in between. I know that this will be a great spot for all of our residents to get active and enjoy the outdoors.

"If Riverside Green is out of your way, you can use Council's Popular Parks and Playgrounds to find a park near you to visit."

Townsville mum Paris Shaw said it was great to have high-quality playgrounds available right across Townsville.

"My daughter Poppy is two, so she's at an age where she has a lot of energy and wants to play all the time. We love getting out to local parks to enjoy quality time outdoors," Mrs Shaw said.

"As a teacher and a mother I understand the value of outdoor play. I'm really glad to see the upgrades at Riverside Green Park include playground equipment for children and young people of all abilities."
