Cessnock City Council is hosting a Repair Café event, where local residents can bring treasured personal items to be fixed by a team of dedicated volunteers, from 10am to 12.30pm on Saturday 15 June 2024 at Kearsley Community Hall.

From toy, clothing, and small furniture repairs, to garden tool sharpening and general handyperson jobs, the team of experienced volunteers will be on hand to lend their expertise and help participants breathe new life into their belongings, all for free.

Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal is encouraging residents to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, connect with others in the community and have their damaged items repaired.

"If you've got items in need of repair, such as torn clothing, broken toys, wobbly chairs, or tools that could use sharpening, bring them along, and get them repaired for free," Clr Suvaal said.

"Our volunteers will even teach you how to fix them yourself for next time.

"This innovative event not only extends the lifespan of goods, but empowers individuals to adopt a more mindful approach towards consumption and waste reduction.

"Volunteer handypersons continue to put up their hand, so we hope to offer even more repair options on the day. We encourage everyone to check Council's Facebook page and website closer to the date to see what else is on offer."

There will be tea, coffee, light refreshments and activities for kids available on the day.

This free Repair Café event forms part of Council's 2024 Less is More sustainability program and was made possible thanks to a partnership with Repair It Lake Mac.
