Rescue in Alice Springs

A 55-year-old woman who was injured on a hiking trail atop the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges, was successfully rescued by NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services overnight.

Just after 4:00pm, police were notified the woman was hiking along the southern ridge with friends two kilometres from Heavitree Gap when she fell, hurting her knee and unable to walk.

Police deployed a drone to locate the injured woman who was 740 metres up steep terrain, and in a coordinated response with paramedics, the woman was retrieved from the ridge via helicopter.

The woman was then transported to the Alice Springs Hospital.

Alice Springs Superintendent Brett Prowse said all those involved should be applauded for the swift and successful retrieval of the injured woman in a difficult location.
