Council's annual road resealing program is about to begin, with 12.3km of streets to be resealed at 53 locations before Christmas.
The $630,000 program will begin on Sunday November 28.
Warrnambool City Council CEO Peter Schneider said that resealing is an important part of Council's roads maintenance program.
"While most roads are expected to last for well over 20 years before they need to be rebuilt, appropriate and timely maintenance is important," he said.
"Road resealing is one of the best ways to extend the lifespan of our city's streets.
"Potholes are formed when water penetrates the road surface and erodes the road base, causing the pavement to collapse.
"While a street may seem to be in good condition at a glance, if you look closely, you may be able to see cracks in the bitumen.
"By resealing streets after these cracks appear, it creates a new water barrier and prevents the more expensive sub-layers of road from being damaged."
Council is once again partnering with the Corangamite Shire in appointing Boral as the contractor to complete resealing in both municipalities.
"We're very happy to be working with Corangamite again to include both of our resealing contracts under a joint tender," Mr Schneider said.
"Road resealing involves specialised equipment and personnel, and by combining both of our resealing contracts, we have been able to achieve a better price than if we were to advertise separately.
"This arrangement has been in place for a number of years now, and it's a great example of an innovative and collaborative approach to achieve better outcomes for ratepayers."
